Winter storm snarls travel plans for some flying out of Philadelphia

Philadelphia (WPVI) — A winter storm that hit the country reached our area on Friday, causing problems for some travelers trying to depart Philadelphia International Airport.

As AAA points out, you may be flying in a sunny area, but your plane may be coming from a snowy area – and that will ultimately affect you.

As holiday travel surged, flights were canceled all over the country.

Blanton Stone, of Wrightstown, New Jersey, said, “We’re flying to Atlanta and I’m hoping we can get out of here before it snows.

I caught up with a group who took the train from LaGuardia to Philadelphia International after their flight was cancelled.

“We got up at 4 a.m. and took the train to Philadelphia,” said Andrew Miller of Panama City, Florida. “Delta was able to get us home.” We can spend Christmas together.”

As of 9:30 a.m. Friday, 3,200 flights have been canceled within the United States, internationally and internationally.

Airport officials are reporting more cancellations as of 7:30 a.m. on Friday than all day Thursday.

All of this as AAA says travel will approach pre-pandemic levels.

AAA’s Jana Tidwell said: “Many people take vacations in between, so you’ll probably have enough time for one or a few trips during the Christmas and New Year holidays to visit family and friends and take vacations. I can split it.”
