Houston arctic blast: AAA estimates 9 million Texans will travel during the holidays

Houston, TX (KTRK) — The holiday hustle and bustle is in full swing. Nearly 9 million Texans plan to travel this holiday season, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA).

With the cold weather coming, ABC13 asked a few people if they were planning to travel during the holidays.

“When it’s really cold, I usually don’t go anywhere,” lifelong Houston resident David Vasquez told EyeWitness News.

He said he saw the forecast for freezing temperatures and decided to leave it at that.

“I knew this was going to happen two weeks ago, so I planned accordingly and decided not to go anywhere during this period,” Vazquez said.

If you’re one of the 8.3 million Texans who plan to hit the road despite the cold weather, it’s a good idea to have an emergency kit in your car that includes these items. To do.

  • Refreshments for everyone on board

The good news is that road conditions around Houston aren’t expected to be bad most of the time, but you’ll need to be careful on the bridges as windy chills can drop below freezing on Friday morning.

If you’re flying through Houston airports, check for delays or cancellations and plan well in advance for ongoing construction at Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Traveler Carlos Macouzet said, “It’s a little stressful, but I think it makes up for the stress of traveling because we’re looking forward to our vacation and spending time with our families.

Delays and cancellations increased at Bush Airport all day Thursday. By the evening, nearly 250 flights had been delayed and more than 30 canceled.
