Purdue retains top spot in AP’s top 25 men’s college basketball poll For the third week in a row, preseason No. 1 North Carolina returns to the rankings, while New Mexico beats the poll for the first time in eight years.
In Monday’s latest poll, the Boilermakers won 40 of the 60 votes, while undefeated Connecticut took the remaining 20 votes to sit in second place at the top unchanged.
Purdue had never held the No. 1 ranking until last December when they stayed for a week and were unranked to start the season. However, Boilermakers reported that in late November he surged from No. 24 to No. 5 in one week, and on December 12 he rose to No. 1.
