Instead of bringing good news and cheers to fans, Wilson and Co. delivered a giant hunk of coal on national television, and the contest was a special holiday-themed stream that also aired on Nickelodeon… poor boy. Kid. Denver’s misfortunes began after LA took an early 3-0 lead when Wilson threw an interception on the offensive’s third play of the game and played twice into the ensuing drive .
The second INT passed on to Wilson’s old Seahawks teammate Bobby Wagner was delighted to receive a special play-by-play breakdown from beloved SpongeBob character Patrick Starr.
Ah.
Things took off from there as the Rams quickly scored touchdowns on both of their next two drives after the turnover, followed by three more TDs on their next four drives and a fair amount of mixed field goals. It went downhill. Brandon McManus’ field made up for the deficit with his two of his goals, but the Broncos trailed wide at halftime as the Rams scored his 31 points, which equaled the highest score of the season (!) .
Wilson’s predicament continued into the second half, ending a short five-play drive with his third pick and setting up a field goal for the Rams. Denver eventually found him in the end zone early in the fourth quarter after two drives, but by that point the damage had already done him one more way.
Wilson was benched after the drive and finished the day 15-of-27 for 214 yards, 1 TD and 3 INTs, taking a whopping 6 sacks. Mayfield, meanwhile, for the first time in a long time, had 230 yards and two points in 24 of 28, similar to his gunman ways.
Denver’s total incompetence sparked a wave of roasts on social media from fans who couldn’t believe how their already lost season had reached a new low. Check out some of the best reactions to Wilson and the Broncos’ terrible, horrible, bad, and very bad days below.
