Food distribution need is growing; you can help

December 27th. Organizers of this month’s Mana for Life food distribution at Neighborhood Care Centers say more families have been served than ever before.

Growing need

Any amount of fresh produce can be brought to the center at Smith Circle 19711 in Cornelius for the Manna for Life program distributed the second Saturday of each month.

The next food drive is January 14th.

The October food ration provided the highest numbers ever.

How December Drive Was Born

Food Drive sponsor Fisher has made Food Collection a neighborhood event in the Jetton Cove area.

“In the end, three adults and six children knocked on 300 houses and collected 60 bags of food,” she said.

Fisher also wanted to tap into underutilized teens who needed community service time in schools and clubs.

“The best part is that my teenage son needs community service time and I figured I could start by working a few hours at a food drive, so after seeing my post on Nextdoor, one mom , is how Liz Feinberg reached out to me,” Fisher said.

Fisher said when Huff High School senior baseball player Alexander “Xander” Bowen came to help sort out Having collected food at Jeton Cove, she knew Xander could be the perfect partner to test the process in another area.

Zander, who lives on Meta Road, has knocked on the doors of 250 homes on The Peninsula, “resulting in amazing food and monetary donations,” she said.
