In 2022, travel is back. Borders have reopened, according to a Forbes report. Travel agents have been overwhelmed with new customers, insiders said. According to Colombians, American baby boomers led the wave of vacations to destinations such as Italy and the United Kingdom.
Additionally, news outlets around the world reported on “revenge travel,” or the urgency to travel and regain lost vacation during the pandemic.
Even before this surge in travel demand, destinations around the world were experiencing overtourism. As insiders have previously reported, the influx of tourists to certain cities can have a negative impact on destinations. Suffering, Condé Nast Traveler reports, insiders say, excessive tourism often negatively impacts the environment, the cultural landmarks of places, and the people who live in those destinations.
However, according to Google’s Destination Insights, many of these cities were also the most searched destinations for those looking to travel in 2022. Google’s report reveals the most searched destinations based on search volume from January to December 2022, and the results include many cities that are congested and potentially overreached.
