Watertown, New York — A state of emergency has been declared in Jefferson County, according to Jefferson County Council Speaker William Johnson and the Jefferson County Fire and Emergency Management Agency.

Beginning at 7:00 a.m. on December 24, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will: travel ban Due to blizzard conditions, impassable roads and limited visibility. This travel ban is in effect for the time being.

This means only limited travel that is essential to the protection and preservation of life and/or property such as:

Medical personnel, firefighters, law enforcement and emergency services personnel

Government officials and employees providing services related to this emergency, such as Highway Administration officials

Vehicles or persons in or in the process of performing urgently essential acts related to the protection of life and/or property.
