This year’s Christmas air fares averaged $339 for round-trip domestic flights as of mid-December, according to Hopper, an online travel agency that tracks travel costs.

It’s not as cheap as flying in a sleigh or reindeer, but it’s down 11% from 2019 and 15% from last year.

International visitors will decline as well, but not by nearly as much. The average round-trip ticket in mid-December averaged $1,360, down 1% from 2019.

However, travelers who have to pay for lodging will see greater price increases. Hopper said the average hotel room rate for Christmas will average $202 per night for him, up 14% from 2021.
