Snow is expected overnight into Monday, making morning commutes in northern Illinois slippery, according to the National Weather Service.
On Sunday afternoon, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a special weather statement and a forecast of hazardous weather.
The alert covers all of northeastern Illinois, including the Chicago suburbs.
NWS said snowfall will remain less than half an inch per hour, with amounts ranging from 1 to 2 inches of coating.
Cold ambient temperatures could create slick spots on untreated roads by dawn Monday.
