Snow is expected overnight into Monday, making morning commutes in northern Illinois slippery, according to the National Weather Service.

On Sunday afternoon, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a special weather statement and a forecast of hazardous weather.

The alert covers all of northeastern Illinois, including the Chicago suburbs.

NWS said snowfall will remain less than half an inch per hour, with amounts ranging from 1 to 2 inches of coating.

Cold ambient temperatures could create slick spots on untreated roads by dawn Monday.

The NWS said, “Low snow cover, low snow cover, but very cold road surface temperatures, at least on a local scale, can result in very dangerous travel conditions for such small amounts of snow.” There is.”

Drivers planning to travel tonight or Monday morning should be aware of smooth areas on bridges, overpasses and snow-covered roads.

The NWS said the snow will stop from mid-morning until late Monday morning.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time for commuting.
