I Save Thousands of Dollars Travelling by Looking After Pets Worldwide

  • I love traveling and seeing new places, but my bank account isn’t all that enthusiastic.
  • I started pet sitting this year to get free vacation accommodation.
  • This makes travel much more affordable and provides a company bonus for solo travelers.

I’ve always loved to travel, but my bank account holds a different opinion.

With COVID-19 restrictions easing, I wanted to get back into adventure and give myself up to my wanderlust. But my dream of ticking off every destination on my travel bucket list started to fade when I started counting costs.

But this year, adventures have become more affordable because I discovered a lifehack that allows you to stay for free wherever you go.

Instead of paying big bucks for hotels and Airbnbs, or sleeping in hostel rooms with multiple strangers, you’re staying in people’s homes and taking care of your beloved pets through TrustedHousesitters.

This is a win-win for all parties involved. You can stay for free under certain conditions. I take care of their pets and they take care of the house and fur babies.

You still have to pay for the trip, so it’s not a free trip.

In October, I spent a week in idyllic Vienna taking care of 18-month-old Molly. Molly was the perfect partner for my solo trip. Although there was some language barrier for her.

When I saw an ad to take care of Molly, I just signed up for a trip through the Trusted Housesitters app and was invited to a Zoom call with her owner, who lives on the outskirts of Vienna, the Austrian capital.

We talked about what she needs if you have experience with nervous dogs and rescues and how to take care of their home. I have booked a ticket to

This meant I had to incorporate pet-related chores into my vacation. Molly knew she needed two walks a day, so she had to plan her sightseeing accordingly.

But she was happy to be alone for up to four hours, so I could go outside and explore while she was content to snuggle up on the couch. Since Vienna is a small city, this worked well, so we could easily see a lot in a 4 hour window.

The return to her super excited tail and impressive jumps makes the adventure even more fun.

In fact, if you want a blame-free vacation, this isn’t for you. It’s just

I’m going to Munich, Germany in January to work as a cat sitter. A cat friend may be a better option for those looking to reduce time-consuming responsibilities while on vacation.

The final bonus of this “travel hack” is how you can meet amazing people from all over the world. The family I was sitting with left the day after I arrived, so we spent the night playing card games and chatting before their vacation began. Hairy or not – and get to travel in a way that doesn’t hurt your bank account.

Great travel hacks – but be careful

As a UK citizen I can pet sit in Europe with very few restrictions. However, you should check what restrictions apply.

Earlier this year, an Australian woman said she turned back at the US border when she arrived in Australia to pet-sit with TrustedHouseters, according to insider Ryan Hogg.

Once she got to Los Angeles, border officials began questioning her about her travels and asked her some questions about her answering machine, she told Insider.

When she told them how long she had been home sitting, where she did it and how she found such an opportunity, she was turned away and sent back to Australia. .

U.S. Customs and Border Protection could not comment on Gorey’s specific case, but a spokesperson advised that the answering machine violated visa guidelines.

“Under the Visa Waiver Program, nonimmigrant aliens are not permitted to come to the United States as tourists (recreational visitors) and engage in unauthorized employment,” a spokesperson told Insider. “For example, taking care of the house and animals in exchange for room and board,” they said.

However, a Trusted Housesitters spokeswoman said she did not know why the Australian citizen was being deported as authorities provided no explanation for their decision, adding: “Pet sitting with Trusted Housesitters is an It does not violate immigration guidelines,” he added.
