A severe winter storm hitting the United States caused Friday delays at airports previously unaffected by the severe conditions.

The Federal Aviation Administration has announced that crews are taking deicing measures on flights to American Airlines’ second hub at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina.

In the Pacific Northwest, the FAA had ground-stopped flights to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Portland International Airport due to snow and ice, but one runway reopened in Seattle by 11 a.m. I was.

The FAA also stopped traffic at Reagan National Airport near Washington, DC. This airport also had flights delayed and canceled on Thursday. It’s for de-icing.

President Reagan “will chemically treat the airfield before a rapid freeze is expected in the area,” the FAA notice said.

The FAA says the change in atmospheric pressure associated with the storm will create strong winds at airports from Boston to Atlanta.

About 3,800 US flight cancellations recorded by FlightAware by late Friday morning dwindled to about 2,600 nationwide on Thursday.
