In Tacoma, Washington, burglars destroyed three power plants on Christmas morning, leaving about 14,000 customers without electricity, according to police.
At approximately 5:30 a.m. Sunday, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a robbery at the Tacoma Public Utility Substation on 46th Street.
When deputies arrived, they saw evidence that the fenced area had been broken into, according to the department’s statement. Nothing was taken from the substation, but police said equipment had been destroyed, causing a power outage in the area.

Later that morning, another robbery was reported at the Tacoma Utility Substation on 224th Street. This was also a forced entry and equipment damage, nothing was stolen from the scene.
At 11:25am, a third robbery was reported by Puget Sound Energy after the blackout and robbery occurred around 2:40am.
A representative said the third scene was also broken into and the equipment destroyed.

14,000 Tacoma residents lost power Sunday morning as a result of the robberies and vandalism that occurred.
The website poweroutage.us reported that just before 7 p.m. Sunday, only 2,084 Tacoma Utilities customers and 1,365 Puget Sound Energy customers lost power.

All three robberies are under investigation and the suspects have not yet been arrested.
