Funviralpark The Mets’ massive 12-year, $310 million contract with Carlos Correa has been put on hold, at least for now, due to concerns about an ankle injury he sustained in the minor leagues eight years ago.
According to The Post’s Mike Puma, both teams are currently tight-lipped about the status of the deal, but optimism remains that the two sides will reach an agreement.
Correa has never been sidelined because of his right foot, but he had at least some cause for concern during this year’s games.
On September 20 against the Royals, Correa limped to his feet after sliding to second base. Correa attempted to steal, but when tagged, he appeared to be in pain as soon as he made contact with the shin of Royals second baseman Michael Massey.
“He just hit my plate,” Correa said after the game. “I had surgery and he hit it. I felt a little numbness. A vibration. So I was waiting for it to calm down. It was a little scary, but I moved and it worked.”
The operation he is referring to was done in the past. In 2014, Correa played for the Astros’ High-A affiliate, the Lancaster Jethawks.He was injured sliding into third base.
He missed the rest of that season in 2014, but wore an ankle guard for some time as a shortstop for the Astros.
