Welcome to the final “Best Movies of 2022” list. While other lists try to get the big picture with 10 movies, or one specific genre, Heat Vision tries to tackle the best of the genres we love, from comic book adaptations to horror to fantasy. And we love the animation medium.the only tar Stories from the Star Wars series can be found around here Andor very smart, funny and unique Inishelin’s Banshee I’d love to see X-Men hero Sean Cassidy flying to save Jenny the Donkey.

Jokes aside, 2022 has been a pretty good year for movies for most of the genres we love. At times, watching them has become a chore, but I really hope that changes next year.

Horror has had a banner year, both in terms of box office and quality. These movies were scary. Often they were suggestive and capitalized on our fears.

And hopefully we can continue to convince people that animation is more than just a genre, it’s a versatile canvas for telling stories big and small. thrilled and even opened our eyes with a ferocious return to stop-motion animation.

Never before has there been a movie like this: a movie dedicated to the legacy and memory of one man and character. In this case, Chadwick Boseman and his Marvel heroes are forever intertwined.Ryan Coogler , made the impossible possible in a film worthy of a homage to men, thoughtfully pondered ideas of grief and legacy, and delivered strong Marvel-style soap opera and action to its audience. Giving an award-worthy performance as the Queen and Mother of Wakanda who lost her , Tenoch Huerta makes an interesting splash as the complicated villain Namor.

Let’s face it, your eyes are probably different when you hear predator movie on the way. Another crippled entry in a crippled franchise that has worn off over time. But in the hands of director Dan Trachtenberg, who made a great slow-burn thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane Co-wrote the screenplay with Patrick Ezon. prey not only predator The Movie – Hunt, Kill Brings – follows a Comanche woman (Amber Midthunder) trying to prove herself with the world’s men as she sees the world having to come to terms with the atrocities of colonial invasion. Scott Derrickson, the kind of movie you could always see in mall cinemas in the 1980s, adapted Joe Hill’s short story after leaving. Doctor Strange and the Mad Multiverse. good phone. This horror piece allows Derrickson to delve into the downtrodden Denver childhood and show a very rough and tumultuous period in his brother and sister’s life. The filmmaker delves into the bag of tricks he’s amassed over a decade and a half working on his thrillers of all kinds of horror. The film has tension and tone, a whimsical villain (Ethan Hawke who mostly hides under a mask) and a great cast of child actors (a winning duo of Mason Thames and Madeleine McGraw).

Holy cow, what have we just seen? Part superhero movie, part Bollywood musical, part historical epic, this was the best action movie of the year. Filmmaker SS Rajamouli takes two real-life 20th-century Indians and ties them together in a story of friendship, betrayal, trust, and ultimately teaming up to take on British Raj. The movie is spectacular, operatic, at its best, with a one-man army, battles that are Jack Kirby-esque beatdowns, and dance-offs that are moments of standing up and cheering. Year.

After several years docked in the animation sea, DreamWorks Animation triumphantly returned with a sequel to 2011’s entertaining and clever film. cat in bootsBut instead of giving us more of the same, director Joel Crawford and co-director Januel Mercado give us a story about a cat contemplating his death. Good old death and what happens to cats at the end of their nine lives. But our kitten has a real, gulp fear and a lot to chew on in terms of what that means. It’s pure catnip.

A tense rollercoaster from actor Zach Klegger, co-founder of comedy troupe The Whitest Kids U Know. What started out as an already powerful and terrifying premise – a woman (Georgina Campbell) finds herself double-booked at an Airbnb on a rainy night, reluctantly decides to stay, and finds a nice guy already there (Bill Skarsgard) – Enter Bat Guano’s Territory so much that the characters and viewers go deeper into the house. Seriously, try not to read anything about it before you see it, including the addition of Justin Long’s character that sends the movie in a completely different direction.

Mia Goth from X.

Ti West delivers not only the best of 1970s grindhouse vibes, but a novelty film with all the big ideas about stardom, aging, and elusive beauty. The story focuses on a group of young and beautiful people who go to a farm to take advantage of the growing porn boom that promises wealth and fame. But the old farm couple isn’t what they seem, and soon the body count begins to grow, from pitchforks to alligators. The movie is a purely fun thrill ride, full of set-up and payoffs, giggles and gore, and some heartfelt sex thrown in. X Well-cast: Jenna Ortega in Scream Queen Mode is notable, but the real breakthrough is Mia Goth, who plays the heroine who forges a relationship with an elderly farmer’s wife.

The film is a great showcase for Goth, who delivers an award-worthy climactic monologue (and she’s already been nominated for an Indie Spirit Award for Lead Performance).

Top Gun: Maverick, (aka Top Gun 2), Tom Cruise, 2022.

original top gun I would never have been on a list like this. There was no genre connection, no movie, etc. Highlander When Little Shop of Horrors would have bounced it off.heck, even boy who can fly Perhaps there were other reasons for being on a list like this. But times have definitely changed. Top Gun: Maverick is now another theatrical fantasy, with Tom Cruise in his own superhero category. maverick This is the closest you can get to Cruise. Star Wars movie and what is it maverick The sweaty, clenched teeth, numb hands practice run and even the Solo/Millennium Falcon moments are really great final missions, if not three hits on the Death Star.

Superhero movie of the year. Matt Reeves’ epic and operatic work was a part of it Sevenpart sawpart French connection, gave us a truly moody and dark Batman. The movie feels like it’s been overlooked since it came out in March, but it’s been forever in the entertainment news cycle. But Reeves’ movies leaning toward emo freak shows, with Robert Pattinson leading an impeccable cast, are very well made. (Also, if you want to see the range, check out Colin Farrell here as a penguin and then as a farmer Inishelin’s Banshee.) The movie shows the malleability of the Batman concept and the rogue gallery for all kinds of exploration. And that score by Michael Giacchino? One of the best of the year.

Michelle Yeoh from EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE.

1. All at once, anywhere

What’s left to be said about this year’s most original and head-turning film? We combine mediums to create stories that have been successful beyond anyone’s imagination, big and small. Michelle Yeoh carries on her film as the beleaguered owner of an IRS-audited laundromat that breaks her husband’s heart and suffocates her daughter. Everyone shines here too. In particular, Stephanie Su, who played her layered daughter, and her former child star, Ke Hui Quan, who made a splashy comeback to acting as her husband. The film is very bold and keeps throwing ideas and concepts at you and demands that you keep up. But it’s also so adorable, with a beating heart opening up to you and asking you to love it.

Honorable Mention: Avatar: Path of Water, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, Glass Onion: Knife Out Mystery, Sea Beast
