An investigation is underway after two people, including a boy, were shot dead in East Birmingham on Monday night.

At approximately 7:30 pm, police were dispatched to the UAB hospital after receiving reports that two men had been shot. When officers arrived at the hospital, they learned that the adult male victim had been pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the emergency room.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said the victim’s exact age has not been released, but the injuries were not life-threatening.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was in a vehicle traveling down Block 1400 of Carson Road when someone opened fire on the vehicle. They were then taken to hospital.

Fitzgerald said additional details were limited. No arrests have been made.

The fatal shooting was Monday’s second murder.

Three people were shot early in the morning at Block 2700 on Jefferson Avenue Southwest. One man was killed at the scene, and two of them, an adult woman and her teenage girlfriend, were injured and taken to hospital by private vehicle.

Tonight’s murder victim is Birmingham’s seventh murder in eight days and the 144th this year. Ten of his cases were justified and therefore not considered a crime.

Across Jefferson County, there were 192 homicides, including 144 in Birmingham.

Anyone with information should call Homicide Detectives at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
