Investigators say a search is underway for a Virginia man who went missing in suspicious circumstances, prompting loved ones to make painful pleas for information.

According to Prince William County Police, 20-year-old Jose Guerrero was last seen on December 21 when he left his Woodbridge home on Lynn Street around 8 p.m.

There was no Christmas for us. We grieved for our son. His daughter spent her first Christmas without her father,” said her mother Andrea Salgado. “It’s not fair, someone needs to speak up.”

Sheila Perez, Guerrero’s girlfriend and mother of 10-month-old daughter Avery, said they were planning a date last week.

Guerrero said he had to flee for a few minutes, but never returned.

And on Friday, investigators recovered his vehicle near Bel Air and Jeffries Road, less than a mile and a half away.

“This is serious,” Perez said. “We know he is endangered based on blood in the back seat found in his car on Friday night.”

The loved ones said they were investigating on their own after tracking down Guerrero’s phone in the park shortly after Guerrero went missing and making a disturbing discovery.

“I found a trail of blood drops leading from the parking lot into the woods,” Perez said.

In its last update, police remained tight-lipped and did not release many details about the investigation.

“He’s a sweet guy. He’s quiet, shy and polite,” Guerrero’s girlfriend said.

The family described the young father as loving, kind and generous. And now they won’t rest until they find out what happened and where he is.

“We’re not sleeping. We’re not eating. We’re up late. We’re up early,” said his mother. “He never did anything for anyone. He would give up anything for anyone.”
