CHARLOTTE — If anyone could outperform the Panthers tonight, it would be the man in the red suit.

Unlike that man, the Panthers were happy to do it on the ground on Christmas Eve.

The Panthers brought a present and gave themselves a chance for an important future heading into the final weeks of the season.

After defeating the Lions 37-23 on Saturday, the Panthers improved to 6-9, giving them a chance to play for the NFC South’s lead when they travel to Tampa Bay next week. The Buccaneers will face the Cardinals on Sunday night in a road trip on Sunday night with his 6-8 record, but the Panthers won an early tiebreaker based on his 3-1 record and a head-to-head win over the Bucks earlier this year. has his advantage.

But it can wait. Saturday they did what they had to do. And they did it the traditional way.

The Panthers rushed for a franchise-record 320 yards and earned a franchise-record total of 570 yards.

His current record is 299 rushing yards and a total of 548 yards.

Donta Foreman scored 165 and Chuva Hubbard scored 125, both career highs.

It was also the Panthers’ fourth home win in five games played at Bank of America Stadium under interim coach Steve Wilkes, and their first home win in December since 2017.

It’s hard to call it a Christmas miracle. Because it’s a cliché and I’ve done this before, if not to the same degree.

The Panthers created character by running the ball under Wilkes, and bounced back admirably from a 21-yard rushing out against the Steelers last week (fifth-least in franchise history).

Early on, the hole is huge, the result of a bullied offensive line pushing back last week.

And so, the Panthers continued this most unlikely season, giving themselves two more meaningful (at least) games.
