The popular NFL Sunday Ticket package is leaving DirectTV and moving to YouTube TV.

The NFL announced a partnership with Google-owned YouTube TV on Thursday. It follows years of speculation as to which media company will next own the Sunday Ticket rights to broadcast every unmarketed NFL game to fans.

The NFL Sunday Ticket was launched in 1994 and has been broadcast on DirecTV’s satellite service since its inception. Starting next season, the NFL Sunday Ticket will be available as an add-on package on YouTube TV and standalone on the YouTube Primetime channel.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Wall Street Journal reported that YouTube will pay an average of about $2 billion a year for the rights to his seven-year package.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the deal with YouTube “will usher in a new era in how fans across the country watch and follow the NFL.”

YouTube TV is a subscription streaming service with over 100 channels and has expanded its live sports content in recent years. In 2020, the NFL began streaming to his YouTube TV subscribers on NFL Network and NFL RedZone.

The Sunday Ticket trafficking from DirecTV is also giving YouTube TV a big boost, one of many online TV services looking to replace cable and satellite TV.

The NFL is America’s most popular live TV content, and the deal is the latest sign that live sports is moving from cable to streaming platforms. Amazon (AMZN) and Apple (AAPL) have also signed major sports deals in recent years.
