A New Jersey woman has been charged with shooting her husband on Christmas Day, prosecutors said.

Merrill Wigglesworth, 51, was arrested in the murder of David Wigglesworth after police responded to a call from an injured man at his home in Mays Landing at 10:19 pm.

In a statement, the Atlantic County Attorney’s Office said police found a 57-year-old man dead, apparently from a gunshot wound.

Marylue Wigglesworth is incarcerated at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

The murdered man was involved in local politics. He ran as a Republican on the Township Commission in his 2019 but was unsuccessful. According to New Jersey 1015, he also served on the planning committee and volunteered for the Boys & Girls Club in Atlantic City.

The couple share an adult son, WPG Talk Radio reported.Police have not disclosed a motive for the killing. Marylue Wigglesworth’s photo on her Facebook page shows the smiling and loving couple.
