An American Airlines ground crew member died in an accident on the ramp at Montgomery Regional Airport around 2:20 p.m. Saturday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family,” the airport posted on social media on Saturday night.

The identity of the person who died in the accident has not yet been released.

Wade A. Davis, executive director of MGM, said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.”

First responders were on the scene and the airport was expected to be closed until Sunday, the FAA said. All flights to and from Montgomery have been suspended until further notice, the airport said.

The accident occurred where Embraer E175, American Airlines Flight 3408 operated by regional airline Envoy Air, was parked. The flight was scheduled to depart for Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport at 3:51 PM, but the flight was canceled after the accident.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating and this is standard for aircraft-related accidents with injuries and fatalities. The FAA said the NTSB is investigating and will provide additional updates.

All passengers with scheduled flights must check directly with American Airlines about the change in status, according to the airport.

This is a developing story. Check back for more information as it becomes available.
