A massive search for missing 11-year-old Madalina Cojocari has been hampered by North Carolina police being slow to notify her of her disappearance, Cornelius Police Lieutenant Jennifer Thompson said in a video update.

“One of the challenges in this case was, simply put, we weren’t told she was gone,” Thompson said. Police are searching all over the world in their search for Madalina.

“Investigators have developed and tracked about 250 leads across state lines and around the world,” Thompson said Tuesday.

Madalina’s parents were arrested on December 17 for failing to report her missing, police previously announced. news releasePrison records show that her mother, Diana Kojokari, was held on $250,000 bail and her stepfather, Christopher Palmiter, was held on $200,000 bail.

CNN has made multiple attempts to contact Diana Kojokari’s attorney. A spokesperson for the law firm representing Palmitor previously said it could not comment at this time.

“This is a serious case of a child whose parents have clearly not told us everything they know,” Thompson said.

Madalina’s missing poster is listed first on the Charlotte FBI website. The last time she was seen was on Nov. 23, when she “was wearing jeans, pink, purple and white Adidas shoes, a white T-shirt and jacket,” she told the FBI. said.

Cornelius is located about 20 miles north of Charlotte, North Carolina.
