Mac Jones reportedly facing possible suspension, following ‘dirty play’ vs Bengals

Mac Jones’ low block against Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Eli Apple on Saturday at Gillette Stadium could have an impact.

Apple has already announced, calling the New England Patriots quarterback’s block “dirty play.” The NFL is reportedly reviewing plays for possible disciplinary action.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk wrote:

“The league will consider whether to possibly dispose of Apple’s below-the-knee attack on Monday or Tuesday at the latest, according to sources familiar with the situation. Suspension is currently considered unlikely. But this is one of the potential penalties.”

The play occurred during a fumble return attempt by Bengals linebacker Jermaine Pratt. Jones could be seen making a low off-the-ball block to Apple, who was chasing the runner. The pass was deemed incomplete and the play was eventually called back.

But that didn’t shake the fact that Apple believed something bad had happened.

“Of course I did [notice it]He tripped me up,” Apple said via NESN.com. “I thought it was a dirty play. He’s done it before and I’ve seen it.”

A potential suspension is something the league should be looking at when making decisions. Shockingly, the Patriots still hold onto their playoff fate in their showdown with the Dolphins in Miami in Week 17.

So the mere possibility of Jones not being at center is a big deal.
