The New York Jets’ quarterback situation is a complicated one, and the benching of Zach Wilson on Thursday night sparked speculation about his next move, as well as the rest of the season.
In perhaps the biggest game of his career to date, Wilson threw a dud as the AFC wildcard hopes faced another playoff-hungry team, the Jacksonville Jaguars, at home in New York. He went 9-of-18 for 92 yards with no interceptions and no touchdowns before the Jets benched him for fourth-string quarterback Chris Streveler, who was activated before kickoff. .
Seeing Strebeller able to move the offense better than Wilson broke the spirits of many Jets fans considering Wilson was supposed to be the franchise’s quarterback as the No. 2 overall pick last season. .

Now, according to Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer, the Jets don’t seem to see him as that kind of guy anymore, which is a colossal draft blunder by GM Joe Douglas.
“They have completely lost faith in Zach Wilson,” Glazer said Saturday. “Zach lost his confidence in his last game, and he lost more confidence in him. Expect the Jets to walk away from him after this season.”
Jet legend says Zach Wilson ‘lost trust’ of fan base: ‘It’s very hard to regain their trust again’
Wilson hasn’t won as a starter since Week 9 against the Buffalo Bills in a 20-17 game against the AFC East. Wilson went 18 of 25 for 154 and had a touchdown in that game.
However, in the next matchup against the New England Patriots, the quarterback had some questions after Wilson went 9-of-22 for 77 yards in a 10–3 loss. When asked after the game if the offense let the defense down, Gang Green allowed just three points until Marcus Jones returned a touchdown punt to seal the Patriots’ victory. Wilson simply replied, “No.” He reportedly rubbed his teammate the wrong way.
But with still two games left in the season and the Jets mathematically not out of playoff contention, there’s a lot to play in the next two weeks. Will it be?
That’s a mixed answer, as Wilson’s replacement, Mike White, is dealing with a broken rib after he was on the bench after the New England game. But if White can face the Seattle Seahawks next week, he’ll start.
If not, head coach Robert Saleh’s words after Thursday’s 19-3 loss to the Jaguars seemed to indicate Wilson was under center.
