Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antal Lumumba said, “Due to ongoing water pressure problems caused by extreme winter weather, we have issued a regional emergency. We are working hard to identify and restore pressure,” he tweeted. Sunday.
In a statement, the mayor said there were reports of little to no pressure in South Jackon, Byram, West Jackson and other areas scattered around the city.
“At OB Curtis Water Plant, water crews are still dealing with a complex problem.We spent a good portion of our day identifying leaks to restore pressure.But pressure remains low. Place until pressure is restored.
Mississippi residents told to boil water after system pressure drops
On Christmas Day, the city told residents that recommendations for all surface water connections would be in place until further notice “due to pressure loss in the system.”

“This advisory includes surface water connections in Byram and Hines counties. Chances are none, OB Curtis and JH Fewell water treatment plants will continue to work to maximize production in order to restore pressure to as many systems as possible,” the notice said.
Well system connections are not included.
The update was scheduled for Tuesday.
The water system partially collapsed in Jackson earlier this year and previously in 2021, and the Environmental Protection Agency is working to help with efforts to repair broken water pipes.
The Jackson water system will receive $600 million from the federal government.

A spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Environmental Protection said at least 16 water systems across the state had problems and were leaking water in Memphis, Tennessee, on Tuesday.
Residents hit by frigid temperatures and power outages were asked to “limit non-essential water use.”
