New England Patriots quarterback Mack Jones was accused of making a low block at the Cincinnati Bengals’ corner EIi Apple in Week 16.

Now, one surprising player is coming to Jones’ defense.

Carolina Panthers defensive end Brian Burns and Jones were involved in an incident in 2021 in which the quarterback appeared to twist Burns’ ankle. Barnes did not respond kindly to the incident at the time, wishing the opposing defender a “happy hunt” for Jones. Now Burns is in Jones’ corner.

Regarding Jones’ block, the reaction was swift and strong, with a video of the play itself going viral on Twitter. didn’t seem to think.

“I don’t know. I think he was just trying to take a penalty, like pushing him back or something. I don’t think there was anything out of the ordinary,” Barnes said.

Jones was fined $11,139 by the league for playing for Apple. Some thought the fine was punishment enough, while others thought the second-year quarterback should have been given more punishment.

Either way, the Patriots, especially coach Bill Belichick, are ready to put this whole affair on the back burner.
