A Florida sheriff’s deputy was shot dead on Christmas Eve while responding to a domestic violence assault.

Cpl. Ray Hamilton was hit by a hail of bullets when Timothy Price Williams, 43, opened fire. The sheriff’s deputy was with a special forces team trying to negotiate peacefully with the suspect and present him with a domestic violence battery charge warrant.

Hamilton, who was married, left behind a wife whom one of his colleagues said was “very much loved.” It is unknown if the fallen officer had any children.

Refusing to leave, Prince Williams barricaded himself inside a townhouse on North Park Boulevard in Wright, Florida and fired several shots through a window. According to a statement from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, Hamilton was shot around 12:40 p.m. Saturday as he entered the area behind the backyard fence.

The officer was taken to Destin Hospital in Fort Walton Beach, where he later collapsed from his injuries and died around 3pm. The suspect was still inside the house and refused to come out, but after finally leaving the house, his actions caused another deputy to fire at him and hit the suspect in the right arm.

The man who killed the officer was taken into custody after being taken to hospital for his injuries and charged with premeditated first-degree murder in the murder of Officer Hamilton. he was denied his bail.

The department said the special was responding to a call Saturday morning from a victim who reported that Price Williams slapped her in the face and pushed her during an altercation the night before.

According to an OCSO news release, the victim said she had been deprived of her phone because she had failed to call 911.

A five-year veteran, Hamilton served on the Special Response Team and has won countless awards for his service.

Okaloosa County Sheriff Eric Aiden said in a Facebook post that the grief of losing Hamilton was devastating.

Aden said, “I am grateful for the constant words of support given to his family and colleagues as they face this devastating loss of a deeply loved and respected friend, public servant and hero. I’m here.

Hamilton’s death makes him the 61st officer to die in a shooting in 2022, The New York Post reported.

“Sometimes I’m at a loss for words. He was one of my trainees when I started five years ago. Excited and ready for work. No matter how much I try to stress him out, he always He was positive and ready for the next challenge. After the training, we remained good friends and talked every day before our shift. We were together.

Ray was on the stack and had no cigarettes. He scooped me up and gave me a goofy Ray grin. I never thought this would be our last conversation.
