A day after reversing his commitment to Oregon from Notre Dame, five-star safety Peyton Bowen shocked the recruiting industry by signing with Oklahoma on Thursday.

Ranked 14th overall in recruits and 2nd in safety on the 2023 ESPN 300, Bowen is the highest-ranked defensive player Oklahoma has signed since ESPN began ranking recruits in 2006.

“Looking back at yesterday’s whirlwind, I recognize that I made some mistakes, I regret them, and I will learn from them.” It was a coaster.”

Brent Venables’ first full recruit class as Oklahoma’s head coach ranked him fifth and moved up to fourth after Bowen’s exit from Notre Dame. (The Irishman dropped to his No. 7 spot.) The 6-foot, 195-pound Bowen is teammate Jackson at John Geier High School (Texas). A five-star recruit, overall he was the eighth-ranked recruit and number one. A double-threat quarterback. Bowen and Arnold helped lead the Wildcats to his 14-1 record in a December 10 loss to DeSoto (Texas) High School in the Class 6A Division II Semifinals. However, he converted to Oregon on the first day of the early signing period.

He is the second five-star prospect to resign from Oregon State this week, as No. 3 quarterback Dante Moore turned to UCLA on Monday.

Still, coach Dan Lanning and Oregon still had a very productive early contract period.

The Ducks have signed defensive end Matayo Uiagalerai (65th overall in 2023), brother of former Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalerai. LSU cornerback Dalen Austin (142nd overall in 2023), Baylor quarterback Austin Novosad (270th overall in 2023) and running back Jaden Rimmer for Washington.

They entered the day ranked 14th and finished in the top 5. Without Bowen, however, they move down.
