Dalton Risner and Brett Rypien say sideline beef was a misunderstanding

In the third quarter of Sunday’s game between the Denver Broncos and the Los Angeles Rams, CBS cameras caught backup quarterback Brett Rippien and guard Dalton Lisner arguing on the sidelines before being separated by teammates.

After the final 51-14 loss, Risner and Rypien explained that the incident was a misunderstanding.

“He let our offensive line know they needed to pick Russell Wilson down when he went down,” a listener told KUSA-TV’s Mike Chris after the game. “And it’s mid-game and hot. I didn’t quite hear what he said. He thought we were talking about giving up the sack.”

Risner snapped at Rypien, but it wasn’t about helping Wilson.

“It was just a misunderstanding,” said Risner. “Dalton and I are really good friends. He thought I said something different.”

Wilson was sacked six times before being replaced by Ripien in the fourth quarter.

This isn’t the first time Denver players have caught the camera’s eye on the sidelines this season.

In October, a video of wide receiver Jerry Jeudy lashing out at running back Melvin Gordon on the sidelines went viral. In November, nose tackle Mike Purcell was seen yelling at Wilson on the sidelines.

It’s been a season to forget for the 4-11 Broncos, and player frustration is clearly boiling over.
