“The first thing that came to my mind was to thank God that baby Kayson was found. He’s alive and well,” said Indianapolis Police Department Sergeant Sean Anderson on Friday at ABC Indiana. He told Police affiliate WRTV.

his colleague, Sgt. Richard Elle said he picked Cayson up and hugged him and thought, “He’s okay, I’ve got him, let’s take him back to his parents.”

The search for Kayson began Monday night after a homeless woman allegedly stole her mother’s 2010 Honda Accord outside a Columbus restaurant. Police said he was in the car while they went to pick up the food order.

The Kyair was discovered early Tuesday morning at Dayton International Airport, more than 70 miles from Columbus. Authorities say his 24-year-old Nala Jackson, the suspect who left Kaia in her car seat in the Dayton Airport parking lot, was caught on surveillance cameras.

Police said early Thursday they had received information that Jackson may have been found in Indianapolis. She has been charged with two counts of kidnapping.

The two Indianapolis officers were unable to discuss details of the ongoing investigation, but both knew they were watching Cayson.

Kayson was found healthy and taken to the hospital for further evaluation. His grandmother, Lafonda Thomas, told WRTV that her family is waiting for him to return to Columbus.

Lafonda Thomas said: “I am grateful for his safety and support.

For Anderson, hugging Cayson after he turned out to be safe was “one of the best feelings of my career” and a reminder of why he became an officer.

“Moments like this are rare. We see a lot of terrible things as law enforcement officers, but not often with positive and successful results,” he said. When it does, that’s what really keeps me going, so this is more fuel in my tank to continue serving the community.”
