In September, Abbott sent two buses full of immigrants to Harris Resilience in D.C., sparking criticism among Democrats. Republican governors have been transferring immigrants to democratically-run cities across the country in recent months.

Abbott wrote a letter to President Biden last Tuesday requesting that the government send federal assets to help address the situation at the border, especially as temperatures drop and winter storms approach Texas.

In a statement on Saturday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said it “will continue to fully enforce immigration and public health laws at the border.”
“Individuals and families who attempt to enter the country without authorization will be deported or placed in deportation proceedings by court order under the Title 42 public health authority. No one should put their life in the hands of smugglers or risk their lives or limbs to cross,” DHS added.
