Funviralpark Bill O’Brien knows the Patriots organization well after playing for New England from 2007-2011 and serving as offensive coordinator for one season in 2011.
O’Brien currently works as an offensive coordinator at the University of Alabama. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport recently reported that O’Brien has emerged as a “strong choice” to become the Patriots’ next OC. NBC Sports Boston’s Tom E. Curran added a report on Tuesday night’s “Quick” Slants.
O’Brien was asked about his future during Wednesday’s press conference ahead of Saturday’s matchup between Alabama’s Sugar Bowl and Kansas State.
“The focus for me, this coaching staff, and these players has really been on these games that we’re playing,” O’Brien said. Games played, those things that I’ve been coaching for almost every year, and I think have been coming for at least the last 12 years, and they’re things that are addressed after the season.
“We’re very focused on this game. We’ve been very focused on all the games we’ve played this year and last year. It’s like that time of year when these things happen. New “Probably from when I went to England last April and met those guys. I will do my best to lead this team.”
The Patriots’ offense was a disaster throughout the 2022 season, with Matt Patricia serving as play-caller and de facto offensive coordinator, and Joe Judge working with Jones and rookie Bailey Zappe as quarterback coach. .
