Action sports legend Ken Block, 55, dies in snowmobile accident

Ken Block, the co-founder of Hoonigan and DC Shoes, a professional rally driver who revolutionized action sports marketing and motorsports filmmaking, died Monday in a snowmobile accident near his home in Utah. he was 55 years old.

Hoonigan Industries confirmed Brock’s death in a statement posted on its social media channels.

“It is with great regret that we can confirm today that Ken Block passed away in a snowmobile accident. was a husband and he will be very lonely.”

Block co-founded the skateboard brand DC Shoes in 1984. After selling the company in 2004, Brock famously went from being a marketer to one of motorsport’s most recognizable names. In just five years at the wheel of a rally car, he has become a podium threat at World Rally and Rally America, and a five-time X Games medalist in rallycross.

In 2008, Bullock posted the first of ten Gymkhana videos on YouTube. The video featured stunts his driving, drifting, and creative interaction with the environment that nearly destroyed the internet. After surpassing his one billion views, his Hoonigan YouTube channel became the most popular in motorsports history.

Brock’s teammate in the Nitro Rallycross series, Steve Erpin, told ESPN: “But if you were lucky enough to get to know him, that’s where the best part of Ken came in. He treated his friends like gold and gave a chance to anyone who wanted a job.” He was everything this world needed more of and he just happened to do a lot of really cool things on the side.”

An avid action sports enthusiast, Brock is an industry ambassador and part of a family that competed in the 2022 American Rally Association Championship with wife Lucy and 16-year-old daughter Leah.

“Ken was very happy this year. In the races, he was happy to race with Lucy, his daughter raced, and he got to have the kids in most of the races,” said Action. Sports icon Travis Pastrana told ESPN.
