Update, 8:05 PM | City officials tweeted that they believed pressure in the water system had “stabilized.”

Several cars were damaged by the rushing water.

Update, 7:53 PM | A Kansas City Fire Department crew member found running water when they finished another call in the area, according to a Kansas City Fire Department spokeswoman.

Mayor Quinton Lucas said people in the downtown KCMO area will have access to bottled water.

As many as 200,000 Kansas citizens could be affected by the broken water main, Mayor Lucas said at a news conference near the break.

Mayor Brian Platt said repairs could take a day or two.

Noting that the city is working to upgrade its infrastructure, Lucas shared his frustration with residents after tonight’s tragedy.

Waterworks officials have to dig a large hole to reach the broken pipe.

They have to remove the damaged pipe and then install the new pipe.

Update, 7:40 PM | A Minnesota couple told KSHB 41’s Megan Abundis that they were dining in Tom’s Town when a waitress told them they were closed because they had no water.
The couple tried other restaurants nearby but they also didn’t have running water.

Update, 7:30 PM | The City of Kansas City, Missouri, says crew members are on site and are working to provide updates.

Update, 7:27 PM | The KCMO Water Authority reports a 30-inch main broke tonight. Low water pressure and water outages are already a problem. The crew has started repairs on site.

Update, 7:15 PM | The Kansas City, Missouri, Water Authority emailed users around 7:10 p.m. Friday that water pressure could drop in the area south of the Missouri River to 63rd Street.

Before | A broken water main in the Crossroads Arts District just south of downtown Kansas City, Missouri has disrupted travel.

The break appears to be along West 17th Street between Main Street and Walnut Street.

Some apartment dwellers and at least one restaurant have reported no running water service.
