Camden, New Jersey (WPVI) — The Mount Charitable Foundation gave a family in Camden, New Jersey, a big surprise by doubling the amount of food distributed the day after Christmas.

The original plan was to carry 20,000 pounds of food between locations on Broadway and Ferry Avenues in Camden and Cathedral Kitchens on Federal Street.

Mount Group CEO Dave Smith said:

This amount is more than double what Camden’s family expected.

The Mount Charitable Foundation makes this possible with the help of local businesses and organizations that have donated to buy food.

“We got everything. We got ham, turkey, canned food, fresh produce, fresh produce, milk, eggs,” Smith said.

The Mighty Writers nonprofit distributes food to families on Broadway and Ferry Avenue.

About 250 people are said to help pick up groceries a day, usually from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.

It’s all a long way into the new year.

Camden Mayor Victor Carsterfen said: “There are many people who don’t have as much as others, but this is what we do.

The mayor and organizers said charity work is important all year round.

“We realize how important it is for everyone to eat every day, not just on Christmas, not just on Thanksgiving, so we thought the day after Christmas would be the perfect time to do this. .

The Mount Charity Foundation will also be donating to families in Pennsylvania in the coming weeks.
