Funviralpark Even at the time of gift giving, many struggle. With inflation mounting, food banks across Texas are finding it difficult to keep up with demand.
Since March of this year, the North Texas Food Bank has seen a 17% increase in meals delivered to local neighbors. The North Texas Food Bank and its feeding network of over 400 food pantries and organizations provide access to an average of 12.3 million meals each month. This is higher than at the peak of the pandemic.
Senior Manager of Communications at North Texas Food Bank Jeff Smith said: local profile Nearly 700,000 North Texans don’t know where their next meal is coming from.
“Unfortunately, this includes more than 250,000 children, or one in five in our region, and NTFB service areas have the fourth highest levels of food insecurity in the country for children. It has become,” Smith said. “That is unacceptable.”
People in North Texas are spending $325 more on food each month than this time last year due to high inflation rates nationwide. The holiday season is especially difficult for those who suffer from food shortages. Smith explained that high prices for food, gas and housing force many people to make difficult decisions about how to spend their limited money.
“You don’t have to choose access to nutritious foods,” Smith said local profile“We are working with our feeding network to ensure that neighbors do not have to choose between buying food for their families and paying other important living expenses.”
We see a more drastic need in the area, but the North Texas Food Bank is doing what it can to keep up with demand to make sure no one is starving.
