Meijer, DuPage Township Partner To Keep Local Food Pantries Stocked

Bolingbrook, Illinois — A local Meijer store partnered with a local charity led by DuPage Township to feed local food pantries and help locals struggling to keep food on their tables. Supporting families, the retailer recently announced.

Meijer’s “Simply Give” program offers local residents the opportunity to donate to a program to restock food pantry shelves in the states of Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky, retailers said. The company said in a news release.

The program encourages customers to purchase a $10 Simply Give donation card. This card will be converted into his Meijer food-only gift card, which will be given to a local food pantry in the store’s community.

DuPage Township Food Pantry will benefit from donation cards purchased at stores on East Boughton Rd between now and April 2nd. Meijer also doubled her purchased cards on Saturday, March 5 and his on Saturday, March 26, effectively tripling his donation. at that time.

Meijer customers who shop online with Meijer pickup or delivery can also purchase a Simply Give donation card as an add-on to their order.

“Unlike the holiday season, hunger has no seasons. Working families and others most affected by the pandemic struggle year-round to bounce back from the financial hardships of the past two years. The number of families we serve continues to grow each month,” DuPage Township Supervisor Gary Marschke said in a news release.

Meijer donated over $7.6 million to “Simply Give” food pantry partners in 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and another $1 million in March. Since this program launched in his November 2008, it has generated more than $69 million in his Midwest pantry to distribute food to residents in need.

DuPage Township Pantry Manager and Spokesperson David Locke said: “To help feed our neighbors facing food shortages in the Romeoville and Bolingbrook areas this winter season, help your community by purchasing a Meyer Simply Give Food Donation Card on your next shopping trip. We encourage you to support our members.”

Meyer officials said the effort is important in helping local families who, like many local residents, are struggling with food insecurity issues.

“The cold winter months are a difficult time for people facing food insecurity, especially given the difficult situation many families are facing amid the global pandemic, food pantries are being replaced daily. We continue to struggle to keep up with the high volume of requests we receive,” said Cathy Cooper.

“The Simply Give program is a way for Meijer customers to partner with us to support food banks and pantries that feed families in need in their communities. We certainly couldn’t have done it without the support and commitment of our customers and team members.
