Instead of the usual three-segment format, CultureMap food editor Eric Sandler mixes things up in this week’s episode of What Eric Eats. Sandler looks back on dining this year with his four recurring co-hosts Mary Clarkson, Michael Fulmer, Matt Harris and Linda Salinas.

The conversation begins with panelists discussing some of their favorite new restaurants of the year. They mention various places such as Navy Blue, Hamsa, Burger Bodega, Tatemo. Each person yells out the other establishment’s favorite dishes, from Marmo’s meatballs to Theodore Rex’s classic tomato his toast.

Salinas and Clarkson mention favorite new bars such as Clarkwood, Refuge and EZ’s Liquor Lounge. From there, the panel turns to the famous restaurants they’ve dined at this year, with Sandler mentioning his first visit to Chez Henoux, a French fine dining staple in Humble.

The episode concludes with a sneak peek at some of the openings everyone is looking forward to in 2023. Most people are referring to the owner of The Pit Room’s new Live Fire his steakhouse, Andiron. Others include Clarks, an Austin oyster bar, and chef Dawn Burrell’s Afro-Asian concept coming to Aeon in late August.
