Food for People is distributing emergency relief supplies to Humboldt County residents affected by this week’s earthquake and power outages.

“There’s no doubt that the worst has been seen in the Rio del Ile region,” said Carly Robbins, front development director at the Eureka-based food bank. We were helping households that had no electricity, no water, no cooking facilities, no plumbing, no flush toilets.”

The Eel River Valley has been hit hardest, but Robbins says the need is widespread throughout the county.

“I see families experiencing food spoilage right before the holidays, and many people who have already done their holiday shopping and don’t know what to do…it affects everyone. There are various levels. People in need, people in need.”

Robbins said Food for People will hold a pop-up emergency food distribution in Fortuna on Thursday. The event will be held from noon to 2:00 pm in the parking lot of the Gene Lucas Center at 3000 Newburgh Road, Fortuna and will provide non-perishable food items to families who have lost food due to earthquakes and power outages.

“Monetary donations are often the most useful because they can turn around and buy what they need,” she said. I have.”
