WORTHINGTON — Members of the Fraternity of Eagles Women Auxiliaries spread some holiday cheer to 10 local families with crates of food collected during December.

“Our motto at Eagles is people helping people,” said assistant secretary Elaine Rothbarth, who presented her fellow “sisters” with holiday gifting box ideas. Every day from December 1st until she’s the 23rd, the woman was asked to donate her one item in a box. The list included everything from boxed potatoes and canned tomatoes to pancake her mix, spaghetti her sauce, brownie her mix and frosting.

Rothbarth added that the ultimate goal was to have 23 items in one box, although some chose to vary from the list provided.

The women will collect 10 boxes on Monday night, tie a ribbon to each box, and deliver to the Mana Food Pantry for distribution this week.

“This year felt like the perfect time to do something for others,” Rothbarth said, adding that it had been a while since Auxiliary was able to do the project. This is the first time they have organized a food drive.

Auxiliary member Myra Bruscher says there are many people and communities in need and wants to do what she and other members can do.

“I wanted to do something like this for people who don’t have enough social security or who have health problems,” Brasher said.

Worthington’s Eagles Women’s Auxiliary has 67 members.
