The 63rd Bank of Chia is on track last week as it completed more than 150 food deliveries to needy families despite persistent rains on the Eastern Shore.
This monumental effort is made possible by all the volunteers who come together each year to help low-income families have a happier Christmas.
Laura Torala, now coordinating deliveries for 31 years, provides detailed instructions and direction to groups of drivers, including members of the Pungoteig Luritan Club, Craddockville UMC Men’s Club, Hospice, Acomac County Women’s Club, and Retired Groups. Did. Northampton High School teachers who have served for many years, and the Northampton High School National Honors Society.
The Acomac County Parks and Recreation Department not only led an assortment of canned vegetables, meats, soups, and staples such as sugar, flour, rice, and cornmeal the day before, but also delivered boxes.
Ham was also delivered to supplement the large box of food delivered to the family. A box was provided again by Dublin Farms in Horntown.
Tasley’s Eastern Shore Food Bank provides a hub for food packing and transport assistance on the day of delivery.
“I’m proud to live on the East Coast, especially at a time like this when countless people come together and donate their time and resources to help those in need,” said Torala.
“We also thank local media, including the Eastern Shore Post, for helping promote Bank of Cheer in 2022.”
It is a Christmas tradition for local residents, community groups, churches and other groups to donate to the Bank of Cheer.
Donors know that 100% of their donations go to supporting Bank of Cheer recipients. All personnel and transportation expenses will be donated.
Recipients are chosen by community leaders. Leaders consult with organizations and social service employees to determine which families are most in need.
