CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – A blizzard warning has been canceled and replaced with a Winter Storm Warning through Saturday morning.
Warnings for winter storms and cold weather are in effect almost everywhere.
Gusts of 50-60 mph or more are possible Friday night.
Not only can this lead to power outages, but very cold wind chill values and snowstorm-like conditions can significantly reduce visibility.
The highest wind speeds are closest to the lakeshore where gusts of wind in excess of 60 mph can occur.
From Friday night through Saturday, wind chill values of -20 to -30 degrees below zero are not outside the charts, with values rising slightly to a range of -10 to -20 degrees on Saturday.
Snow showers will continue all day on Friday, turning to snow on Saturday and Sunday due to the lake.
Areas closer to the lake shore are more likely to see snow cover.
Winds will ease by Sunday, but the Arctic cold won’t leave the region until early next week.
Over the weekend, snowfall should range from 4 to 6 inches in northern Ohio. The closer you get to the lakeshore, the more snowfall you get, and the further south you go, the less snowfall you get.
The snow belt will be 6-12 inches plus over the weekend.
The wind blows away the snow, making it difficult to measure.
