Winter break is the perfect time for students to relax after the stress of coursework, midterm exams and classes. With the holidays approaching, many students may return home or go on vacation to spend quality time with family and friends for the first time this year.

However, many other students, including international students and students who cannot return to their families or hometowns during this vacation, will stay in or around Davis. As students at the University of California, Davis, we are fortunate in being able to travel within the state. We live in a town close to many of Northern California’s gems.

If you are interested in North Coast tourism, big sur When Carmel by the Sea are two beautiful destinations located about three and a half hours from Davis. These areas are filled with scenic vistas, coastlines, hidden beaches, trails, camping, and more. With so many beautiful places to see, the town is perfect for enjoying exploring the local shops in a relaxed atmosphere.

Another seaside town I recently visited was MendocinoFilled with forests, beaches, wildlife, galleries and more, the town and surrounding areas are perfect for a vacation. In addition to all the local shops, check out Point Cabrillo Light Station and Russian Gulch State Park. If you’re in the area, also stop by Fort Bragg.

As we approach the Christmas season, lake tahoe A great place to enjoy the snow and other winter related activities. About two and a half hours from Davis, the town is full of ski resorts and cabins. But Tahoe is also an incredibly versatile place. It’s a great place not only for camping, but also for visiting beaches, lakes, and state parks.

Northern California also has many national forests and parks. one of my favorite destinations, Mount Lassen Volcanic National Park, near Reading. This park is a great destination for those who enjoy nature and are interested in geology, botanical science, and the natural world. Mount Lassen is full of meadows, trails, lakes, campgrounds, forests, geysers, waterfalls and more. I was personally able to visit in late spring, but I would love to visit again in winter as the volcano is known to fill up with snow.

Winter break is the perfect time to explore a part of California you’ve never been to. If you have time to explore, I highly recommend it, especially to anyone who may be in the area in the coming weeks. Create an itinerary to make your trip as memorable as possible.
