SeaTac, WA — It was a chaotic day at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Christmas Day with hundreds of cancellations and delays.
KIRO 7 talked with travelers from all over the country over the weekend at SEA. Many people are perplexed by this whole situation.
“So they rescheduled us to return on the 28th. But we have to go home. I have a business. I have employees.” said Sean Colvin of Tucson, Arizona.
Colvin says he flew with Southwest on this trip. He feels that communication between airlines and customers could be improved.
“But they can answer the phone. They can come out and talk to us. You know, do something else. Communicate with us.” And it’s not happening,” Colvin said.
But the effects of cancellations and delays are being felt by many in Puget Sound. After leaving the Federal Way, Leslie Camacho told KIRO 7 that she plans to surprise her kids with a trip to Disneyland this Christmas.
“Well, we were originally going to surprise the kids to Disneyland for Christmas, and it was our first time going to Disneyland, so we planned all year,” Camacho said. .
She says they were going to fly on Alaska Airlines. But the original flight scheduled for Thursday was canceled due to a mechanical problem, she said. She says their flight was also canceled the next morning. And on Christmas Day, the last flight was also cancelled.
“They sent us an email saying they couldn’t reschedule the flight. Nothing was available,” Camacho said.
She says she had to cancel the entire trip because of this final cancellation.
“And with all the money spent on this trip…” Camacho said.
“This is their Christmas present, nothing under the tree,” Camacho said.
While she and her family are heartbroken over the situation, she feels many people on the trip had a terrible vacation.
“The big dogs out there tell us that little humans don’t matter. It just shows that they don’t care about us,” Camacho said. .
“I hope they’re actually professional and organized next time,” Camacho said.
KIRO 7 has reached out to SEA about when the mass cancellations and delays will end, but have yet to hear back.
