Waller County – According to AAA Texas, more than 8 million Texans drive to their vacation destinations Friday through New Year’s Day.

KPRC2 spoke to people in Buc-ee on Highway 290 in Waller County and they said they were ready for a vacation despite the cold weather.

PJ Campagna checks the list before going out, charging a Tesla named Tes.

“I preheated the car because you can actually preheat the car with an app on your smartphone. It was 32 degrees and he warmed it up,” she said.

LeAnn said she will be traveling with her husband and dog, Spike.

“We’re heading to our grandson’s house in Austin,” she said.

An arctic blast hit the state on Thursday, but despite frigid temperatures, people couldn’t buy their favorite snacks or fill up on gas at Buc-ee’s.

“It’s perfect weather for Christmas.

“As bad a snow apocalypse as Valentine’s Day was a few days ago, but hopefully it won’t last long,” Campagna said.

Campagna heads from Clear Lake to College Station to spend time with family and friends.

“A lot of presents and a lot of good food. We’ve been cooking for days,” said Campagna.

Joshua Zuber, a spokesperson for AAA Texas, says it’s important to check your car.

“At AAA, we want to say bet you’ll arrive safely. The acronym stands for check battery, engine and tires,” said Joshua Zuber.

Zuber, don’t forget to have your car checked by a technician and pack an emergency safety kit.
