COVINGTON, Kentucky (WXIX) – President Joe Biden will be in Covington on Wednesday, days after the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) awarded $1.635 billion to build a companion bridge to the Brent Spence Bridge.
The president is traveling to discuss economic plans.
In a statement on Sunday, the White House said, “The president will show how his economic plan will rebuild our infrastructure, create high-paying jobs that don’t require a four-year degree, and revitalize marginalized communities. I will make a statement about whether it will change,” he said.
On Thursday, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced that Kentucky and Ohio would receive the funds.
The $1.635 billion will be used to upgrade the eight-mile Brent Spence Bridge Corridor, which runs from the Western Hills Viaduct in Ohio to the Dixie Highway in Kentucky, Mayor Aftab Pureval’s office said.
The project, which will provide traffic relief, improve safety and be toll-free, is expected to begin in the second half of 2023, Gov. Beshear said.
Last year was President Biden’s second visit to the Cincinnati area.
President Biden traveled to the Greater Cincinnati area in May to tour United Performance Metals in Hamilton. So he urged Congress to pass the now-signed Bipartisan Innovation Act to fund the production of semiconductors and other technologies that have been stalled by supply chain delays abroad. did.
