Ravichandran Ashwin proved on Sunday why he is one of Team India’s most prized possessions, especially when it comes to Test cricket. For context, Ashwin slammed an unbeaten 42 to take India to the finish line in the second Test against Bangladesh at Mirpur. Ashwin came to bat on Day 4 when India were 74/7 on him while he chased 145 modest targets. on track for his first victory in the longest format against the visitors.
Ashwin and Iyer put up an unbeaten 71-run stand as India won the game by three wickets and completed a 2–0 whitewash.
After the game, Ashwin said he felt his players didn’t trust their defense.
“I didn’t have much batting left. It was one of those games where I drifted the game whenever I was able to stop it. The dialogue was good and I felt like I didn’t trust the defense enough. ” Ashwin said at the post-fight presentation ceremony.
Ashwin also praised Iyer for digging deep under pressure.
“If Shreyas Iyer wasn’t Player Of The Series, I would have shared the POTM award with him. I loved his hitting. The pitches are pretty good here. I thought it would be, thanks to Bangladesh, it put real pressure on us at some point,” he added.
