Snow will spread from Dakota to Minnesota on Christmas Day, bringing arable snowfall to parts of the state, with most of the snowflakes scattering on Sunday afternoon and evening.
“Light to moderate snow will move into western and southern Minnesota this afternoon and evening. The snow should stop by early Monday morning. The largest snowpack is expected in southwest Minnesota, where Three to four snowfalls are possible,” said the National Weather Service.

NWS projects 1 to 2 inches in the Twin Cities and 2 to 4 inches in Southwest and South Central Minnesota.
Here’s how the NWS prediction stacks up compared to some computer models.
HRRR model:
This is very interesting. That’s because it’s a high-resolution model that tends to work pretty well for day-of-event predictions. But look at the picture below. The first is the 7:00 am update and the second is the 9:00 am update. Six inches just southwest of the subway, so the difference is pretty staggering for the 9am update. That’s not what NWS wants.
NAM 3KM Models:
This looks almost identical to the NWS prediction.
European model:
Again, it’s about the same as the NWS prediction.
American model:
Again, fairly consistent with the NWS, although the West is somewhat more abundant.
