The Green Bay Packers need help heading into the postseason, and much of it was delivered on Christmas Eve.
Individual losses by the Seattle Seahawks, Detroit Lions, New York Giants and Washington Commanders on Saturday all may have boosted the Packers’ increasingly hopeful playoff chances. Instead, the Packers unwrapped the perfect Christmas Eve present, and all four teams lost.
The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Seahawks, the Carolina Panthers beat the Lions, the Minnesota Vikings beat the Giants, and the San Francisco 49ers beat the Commanders.
All four teams are ahead of the Packers in the NFC standings. But how long?
The Dallas Cowboys also defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, raising the possibility that Week 18 could mean something to both clubs.
A road to the postseason is starting to look genuinely viable for the Packers. According to The New York Times and FiveThirtyEight, a victory over the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium on Christmas Day could improve the Packers’ playoff chances to his 30% range.
Considering Matt Raffler’s team has won its last three games, the Seahawks have eight losses and the Lions have eight as well, no longer factoring into the Packers’ scenario. And now the Packers only need one more loss to the Commanders and two more to the Giants to sneak up on either team. And remember: the Packers only need to pass either the Commander or the Giants, not both.
Of course, important business is tomorrow. The Packers need to beat the Dolphins, and the help provided on Saturday doesn’t mean much.
With the perfect gift on Christmas Eve, can the Packers find a season-changing win in Miami in their Christmas stockings?
