Over 1,500 US flights canceled the day after Christmas

(CNN) — Dangerously cold and winter weather continued across the country, with air transportation cancellations and delays continuing to affect travelers on Monday.
By 9 a.m. ET on Monday, more than 1,575 flights inside and outside the United States had already been canceled and 1,875 flights had been delayed, according to flight-tracking website FlightAware.

Post-holiday travel disruptions have affected much of the country, with the site reporting the most cancellations at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, Denver International Airport, Baltimore-Washington International Airport Thurgood Marshall. It is followed by the airport, Chicago Midway International Airport.

On Christmas Sunday, 3,178 flights were canceled and 6,870 were delayed.

The winter storm that hit the United States was ill-timed for travelers as flights over the Christmas week began to return to pre-pandemic levels.

A total of 3,487 flights were canceled on Christmas Eve, according to FlightAware. Friday was his worst day with 5,934 cancellations, while Thursday had about 2,700 cancellations.

Across the eastern two-thirds of the country, this massive winter weather is expected to ease slowly this week.
