Funviralpark San Francisco (KGO) — San Francisco was on the verge of breaking the record for the wettest day in the city’s history.
On Saturday’s New Year’s Eve, the Bay Area was hit by a Level 2 storm, according to ABC7’s own Storm Impact Scale.
Meteorologist Drew Tuma of ABC7 News tweeted that December was the wettest month of the year at 4.76 inches. He said he had rained in just 13 hours from midnight to 1pm on Saturday, his 31st day in December.

As of 3 p.m. Saturday, rain gauges recorded 5.33 inches in downtown San Francisco. According to the National Weather Service, on November 5, 1994, in one day he was smashing the record of 5.54 inches. That was 28 years before him.
Tuma says NWS records date back to 1849.
